Dubai: Finlay Georeson and Ahmad Mahmoud reigned supreme in the second round of the UAE National Sailing Championships at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) on Saturday.

DOSC's Georeson won all eight races in his Optimist Cadet class and Hamriya Sailing Club's Mahmoud won six out of eight races in the Laser 4.7 category amid heavy seas and strong winds.

Elsewhere in the Laser Standard, Timothy Riley from DOSC took honours and Saeed Salem Al Zaidi from Emirates Heritage Club (EHC) won in the Laser Radial class.

Hamoud Salem Al Zaidi from EHC proudly took the winners' medal in the Optimist Class while Ron Heyselaar from Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club (ADSYC) was first in the Open Dinghy class. Winning the Catamaran class was father and son duo Jon and Tom Hemingway who represented Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC).

These seven sailing classes in the Championship are designed to develop and promote sailing and act as a selection point for UAE National sailors to represent the UAE at international level.

Incredible

Seventy-three boats and six sailing clubs took part in the eight-race competition, which has a total of six rounds held in DOSC, EHC, ADSYC and RAK. DIMC looks forward to hosting a round in the new season.

Sharon Allison, of DIMC, said: "It's incredible to see how well the younger children handle difficult sailing conditions. The sea state and wind strength on Friday was daunting for the adults let alone the children."
