The first Alex Broun festival has been announced by The Junction at Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz.

Set to begin later this year, the Alex Broun Play Festival is a celebration of the Australian playwright, whose works include over 100 ten-minute plays in various genres, which have been translated into a multitude of languages and produced in over 1,500 productions in more than 40 countries.

The festival is open for participation by all actors and directors, and to schools, colleges, universities and theatre companies either within the UAE or from anywhere else in the world. It runs from November 17–19. Participants outside of the UAE, however, will have to arrange for their own travel and accommodation requirements.

Interested participants must send in their top three preferences for plays to abroun@bigpond.net.au by September 1. One play from the supplied list will then be chosen for the participant/group to perform during the festival.

Independent actors looking to be part of a play can get cast by attending the open auditions on September 9 and 10. The group will then have to rehearse their production for the final performances in November, where they stand to win prizes.

Plays are available for download on the royalty-free website alexbroun.com for a nominal fee, and can be translated into any language for performance. For registrations and further enquiries, write to abroun@bigpond.net.au or productions@alexbroun.com.
