Dubai: UAE companies Physique TV and Super Sports have signed a media partnership deal they hope will aid the growth of sports and healthy lifestyles in the country.

The agreement was announced by Physique TV’s CEO Hamid Dizji and Warren Van Der Merve, Super Sports’ Managing Director, at the Burj Khalifa this week.

Physique TV is the region’s only 24-hour HD television channel that showcases action sport, fitness and a healthy lifestyle, while Dubai-based Super Sports offers professional sports coaching and sports event management services.

“We are proud to announce this co-operation, which will create new opportunities for both our companies, who follow the same mission, to grow.” Dizji said. “We both promote healthy living and encourage sport in our society and I think that Super Sports is the right choice for us and hope we can both go forward.

Dizji revealed the partnership will help Physique TV further expand its broadcasting of live sporting events.

“We tried our hand at live coverage for the first time with the One Fighting Championship, which is widely recognised as the biggest MMA event in Asia, and we were happy with the response,” he said.

“It has encouraged us to look at expanding our live broadcasting and, together with our partner Super Sports, we think that we are contributing to the construction of our society. So many people live in this society and enjoy a wonderful environment and we owe it to them to offer the best possible entertainment.”

Van Der Merwe said: “This is very exciting for us. We are a community-based company that tries to offer as many services to the people in Dubai and the UAE as possible. So by linking up with Physique TV we are now able to let everybody know what we are doing and also hopefully give them a lot more exposure and viewers on their channels as well.

“It’s all about the long term, nothing short term. Our aim is to grow the partnership, to understand each other’s business and hopefully expand and grow in the right direction.

“The first event we’ve lined up is the Asics Run Series on January 10 at Meydan, which is a nice experience for everybody, from five years old to 60. We have some of the top athletes who will be participating in the Dubai Marathon also taking part. So we’re really looking forward to the first of many runs next year.”

Dizji added: “The good thing about Super Sports is that they promote sport and fitness at all levels, unlike trying to focus only on big events like a World Cup.

“Promoting sport for young and old is very important and is very important for our society. We will give them all the support they need.”
