UAE star wins 800m for Paralympic team's second gold and fifth medal overall
UAE’s Mohammad Al Hammadi took a brilliant gold in the wheelchair 800 metres on Wednesday, breaking his own Paralympic record in the process.
The gold added to the third silver won by shooter Abdullah Sultan Al Aryani, to bring the UAE’s medal tally to five at the Rio Paralympics.
The T34 800m win was Al Hammadi’s first gold after taking a silver and a bronze at London 2012.
Al Hammadi beat Tunisian Walid Ktila into second in a time of 1.40.24, with Australian Rheed McCracken third.
Veteran Mohammad Khamis Khalaf won the UAE’s first gold on Tuesday in the men’s 88kg powerlifting competition.
