Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Club for Ice Sports (ADCIS) has appointed Bora Vaikov of Belarus as a new coach for the Storms, their league-winning ice hockey team. Vaikov will replace former coach Trafouri who is from Finland.

The new coach has already started supervising the training sessions of the men's team, which is defending the title this season, in addition to supervising the club's juniors, youth and women's teams.

Storm's squad includes most players who make up the UAE ice hockey national team, which has won many Asian titles.

Support praised

Dr Ahmad Mubarak Al Mazroui, the chairman of the UAE Ice Hockey Society and the chairman of the ADCIS, praised Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, for his support to the sport and his keenness to spread and improve the game in the country and take it to the next level, across all levels, in the future.

"Our policy is to be one of the best teams in Asia in this sport. We believe that our new coach will help us achieve our goals whether on club or national team levels. We have proved to have great prospects in this field," Al Mazroui said.

"Bora is one of the best coaches in the ice hockey game and has already started applying his new and modern methods in training which we believe and hope will led to improving the capacities of our gifted players and [helping] our youngsters to learn more about the technique of the games," he added.
