Abu Dhabi: Special Games hosts UAE have increased their medal tally to 21 after the second day of the event.

UAE athletes have so far picked up eight gold, 10 silver and three bronze medals at the sixth MENA Regional Special Games.

Saif Ahmad Al Doubl won gold in his 25 metre freestyle swimming category while Abdullah Al Tajer took first place in the same race in his category.

Eissa Al Muhairby won gold in the 25 metre backstroke while the the UAE won two silver medals after Al Doubl and Mansour Al Mansouri came second in the 25 metre breaststroke and 25 metre freestyle respectively.

The UAE won four gold medals in athletics. Three of them were picked up by female athletes as Mariam Hussain, Hind Mowahid and Hamda Ali won the 200 metre race in their separate categories.

Abdullah Hassan won took first place in the shotput for the men's only athletics gold yesterday.

Also in athletics, the UAE won five silvers as Khalifa Ahmad and Waleed Hilal came second in the 100metres, Abdullah Rashid came second in the 200metres while Mariam Hassan and Hind Muhannad were runners-up in the shotput.

UAE's eighth gold medal was won by Zakiyah Ahmad Abbass in the ladies' badminton while her teammates Hind Shaheen and Awqada Saeed came second.

Basketball

The tenth silver medal was won by the UAE ladies basketball team who lost to Egypt 8-13 in Group B yesterday while Lebanon won the gold in Group A with Syria taking silver and Algeria the bronze.

Abdul Wahab Mohammad took bronze for the UAE in the 25metre breaststroke.

On the track Mariam Qah'tani came third in the 200 metres as did Khalid Yousuf in the 100metres.

In the men's basketball competition, the UAE A team made the final after beating Saudi Arabia 37-28.

They will face Kuwait in the final for the gold medal.

The UAE B team face today Egypt while Syria will play Algeria.
