Dubai: The UAE sailor Adil Khalid wants light winds in Beijing to boost his quest for a medal.

"In the UAE we are used to sailing in light winds between five to 12 knots. But in Europe they like stronger winds of more than 12 knots," said Khalid.

"During the past few months of my preparations I found I had a better control over the boat in light wind conditions, so naturally I would prefer these in China too.

"This is just a preference. I am adept to sailing under both conditions, but I would prefer light winds as they would give me the upperhand over the stronger European sailors," he said.

The sailing competition is scheduled to be held from August 9 to 21 at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre.
