Doha: The UAE's bowling team missed out on winning a medal in the trio event at the 12th Arab Games as the experienced Shaker Ali and Nayef Ogab again failed to produce their best form.
Qatar won the gold medal with 3,675 pins scored by Yousuf Al Jaber, Masnour Al Hajiri and Mubarak Al Muraikhi, while Kuwait's Basel Al Anazy, Jasim Darwish and Mohammad Al Zaidan were second with 3,492. Qatar's second team of Abdulla Al Jisaiman, Salem Al Marzouqi and Fahad Al Emadi won bronze with 3,478.
The UAE's first team of Mahmoud Al Attat, Sayed Ebrahim and Hussain Al Suwaidi came fifth, behind Bahrain, after scoring 3,433. Al Attar got 1,148 of those with an average of 191.3, Ebrahim added 1,129 (188.2 average) and Al Suwaidi 1,156 (192.7).
The second team that featured Shaker Ali, Ogab and Jamal Ali scored a total of 3,358 and were placed seventh after Shaker Ali scored 1,140 (190), Jamal 1,100 (183.3) and Ogab scored 1,145 (190.8).
"We have hopes in the remaining competitions in the teams, all-event and masters. I hope our players will succeed in showing their true worth." Ahmad Khamis, the team's manager, said on Wednesday.
The teams competition started on Wednesday and were due to be held in two blocks of three games each in the morning and evening sessions.
