Dubai: Author and coach John L Kessel will be conducting a mini-volleyball clinic for UAE coaches at the Leadership Qualification Centre from April 1 to 5.

The practical sessions will be held at the indoor hall of Al Ahli Club, while the lectures and theory will be conducted at the Leadership Qualification Centre next door.

Entitled ‘Modern Trends in Training Youngsters’, the sessions will be attended by 35 coaches and will be aimed at spreading the sport among the UAE youth and in the Arab region. Assisting Kessel will be international instructor Adrie Noij along with Yousuf Al Hilbawi, a FiVB instructor.

Since 1985, Kessel has been working for USA Volleyball (USAV) and is presently the Director of Sport Development. He was team leader for the 2000 US Olympic beach volleyball teams in Sydney, which brought home one gold medal, and for the 2004 US Paralympic women’s sitting volleyball team in Athens, which took the bronze.

In 1995, Volleyball Magazine’s special Centennial issue named him one of the 50 most important people in the sport in the past 100 years. In 2013 the American Volleyball Coaches Association inducted him as their 60th member of the AVCA Coaches Hall of Fame.
