We will have the best when the time is right, SCTDA Chairman says

Sharjah: The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has reaffirmed its commitment in setting up of a state-of-the-art watersports club in the emirate in the near future.

"If we are going to put up a club exclusively for watersports in Sharjah, then we will do it right. We would not like to have something small and then improve on it over a period of time," Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, Chairman, SCTDA, told Gulf News late on Wednesday.

Shaikh Sultan was the chief guest at the awards function to honour sponsors of the annual etisalat Sharjah Watersports Festival.

"We just don't want to rush into it. We are pushing for an exclusive, state-of-the-art watersports club in Sharjah. But such things don't happen at the click of a button. They take time as there is so much of planning involved before we set out on a venture like this," Shaikh Sultan affirmed.

"One has to consider the best location and, of course, there is the budget that would be needed for an endeavour like this. But for sure, this is on track and we will have it sooner or later."

The SCTDA had announced a couple of years back that Sharjah was debating the building of an exclusive watersports facility in the middle of the Khalid Lagoon along the Sharjah corniche.

Shaikh Sultan thanked His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the support of Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

The SCTDA Chairman emphasised the importance of the strategic partnership between the SCTDA and etisalat, saying that the partnership between the two organisations for the second consecutive year has significantly contributed directly to the festival's resounding success, as it embodied the fruitful cooperation between government and the private sector in the UAE, further enhancing the position of the country in terms of hosting and organising world-class events.

The etisalat Sharjah Water Festival 2009 was sponsored by etisalat, Dana Gas, ENSHAA, Smart Spectrum, Al Qasba, Sharjah Museums Department, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), Department of Sea Ports and Customs, Department of public works, Sahara Centre, Al Zahra Hospital, Sharjah Millennium Hotel, Golden Tulip Hotel, Zulal, Airline Air Arabia and media partners Sharjah TV Channel 2, Zee TV satellite, Gulf News, Al Khaleej and Channel 4 FM.
