Abu Dhabi: A total of 25 sporting events will be organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) in November and December to celebrate the UAE's 40th National Day.

This was disclosed yesterday at a press conference attended by Mohammad Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, the Secretary-General of the ADSC, who also launched the website of the council.

"The ADSC has always been keen to participate in the community affairs and this time we have a total of 25 sporting events to celebrate our 40th National Day with the Spirit of the Union being the main theme of the celebrations." Al Mahmoud said.

"This move comes in light of the mission of the ADSC to encourage all walks of society to participate actively in national occasions in order to reflect the cohesion of our society and to celebrate this special and dear event in particular."

The 25 events will be held within 30 days with 14 sports clubs from Abu Dhabi participating. Most of these events will be of ceremonial aspect as they are meant to consolidate the UAE's identity and social unity.

"I would like to express my deep gratitude and thanks to the wise leadership for the great and continuous care and support they are offering to all sports sectors in the UAE. All the achievements of the UAE sports were accomplished due to this care and support." Al Mahmoud said.

The events begin with the Pilots Football Charity match featuring world champions in Formula One car racing who will take part in the Yas Grand Prix, in addition to famous football players, including Adnan Al Talyani and Maradona as well as members of the media and coaches.
