Williamsport, United States: Hwang Jae-Yeong and Jeon Jin-woo each drove in two runs to power South Korea over Chicago 8-4 Sunday in the final of baseball’s Little League World Series.

It was the third title for South Korea in the annual global competition for 11-, 12- and 13-year-olds, following crowns in 1984 and 1985.

Choi Hae-Chan hit a solo home run in a four-run sixth inning for South Korea that boosted their lead to 8-1 and pitched the final four innings for the champions.

A diving catch by Sin Dong Wan helped stop a rally by the US champions.

In the consolation game, Japan posted a 5-0 victory over Las Vegas. The Japanese squad had been seeking a third consecutive title until losing to South Korea in the International final while Chicago beat Las Vegas in the US final.

Takuma Takahashi homered and struck out 11 in a three-hit shutout to lead Japan’s third-place game triumph.
