Sharjah: The annual spring swimming competition, which saw 46 competitors from schools and clubs in the fray, was held at the Sharjah Ladies Club.
Among the institutions participating in the competition were Apple International School in Dubai, Sharjah Wanderers Sport Club, Fujairah Private Academy School, Indian High School in Dubai, English School in Kalba and Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC).
Competitors were drawn in age groups from 7 to 17 years — male swimmers were aged seven to nine, while female participants ranged from seven to 17. The competition saw action in seven events: 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke (14-17 age group), 100m freestyle (14-17 age group) and 100m individual medley.
The competition took place at SLC’s Olympic pool and the top three finishers in each category were presented medals and certificates. They also received gifts from Speedo, manufacturer of swimwear and accessories, and the main sponsor of the event.
A large crowd including parents, teachers, educators and students gathered to encourage the participants.
