Dubai: The second edition of the Seven Emirates Run will be held from November 21 to December 2, it was announced recently.

Starting in Abu Dhabi and finishing in Dubai, the 575 kilometre run will help raise money for children in need of prosthetic limbs.

Last year, Dh100,000 was raised through the Al Jalila Foundation, which helps patients in the UAE who can’t afford medical treatment. This year, organisers hope to raise Dh777,000 for the cause.

The race has four categories, for those who wish to run the entire 575km, participants who want to be part of a seven-member team relay, those who want to run on individual days and those who wish to run the last leg of the journey from Sharjah to Dubai in a special UAE National Day Marathon limited to 43 runners.

Race director Wendelin Lauxen, who holds the Guiness World Record for the fastest time to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents, said the new format would appeal to every type of runner.

“The Seven Emirates Run is back this year with much stronger determination and support,” he said. “We have expanded the categories — there is something for everyone. Running across the seven emirates is an incredible feat. We run for the pure joy of running, to promote a healthy lifestyle and to raise awareness for children in need. We are excited to welcome runners for the last leg — Sharjah to Dubai, to celebrate the 43rd UAE National Day. The course has been designed to give runners a chance to explore the beauty of the country on foot through its varied landscape.”
