Dubai: The Rotax R team clinched the top spot in the summer-ending Team Endurance open race held at the Al Ain Raceway last week.

The format would mean that teams of two to three drivers would all participate in a practice and qualifying session, which would determine the starting positions, then a 90-minute race would ensue, with the teams changing their driver at strategic moments.

The Pole Position was earned by ARJ Team with the fastest lap time of 46.235 seconds being joined on the front row by Rotax R. The second row was made up of the Armada Team and Team Insite Dimensions.

The race got off to a quick start with ARJ leading the pack ahead of Rotax R. Over the early laps the race appeared to be quite settled and processional with no real drama until disaster struck midway through as Team ARJ ran too wide on the exit of the next to last corner and went piercing through the barriers and out into the sand.

Any chances they had of regaining their lead were dashed as the team received two penalties as Rotax R took the lead.

They made no hesitation of building a solid advantage and proving their plan to clinch victory. They kept themselves well out of trouble with a conservative yet quick display and never looked shaky.

Their closest challengers were now the Insite Dimensions Team, who were the only other team on the same lap as Team Rotax R. The battle for the third and final podium position was the closest on track, with Team Aussie Boys, who had started fifth holding a 16-second advantage over the hard charging Team Cunning Stunts.

Although the Stunts were gradually closing the gap, it was the Aussie Boys who made full use of their time cushion and held on for third just two laps down from second place Team Insite Dimensions.
