Rain fails to dampen sports festival excitement

Dubai: Rain failed to wash away the excitement and intense competition in the ongoing Indian High School Sports Festival being held at the school’s premises.

Almost all the football matches in the festival ended in nail-biting finishes. The Delhi Private School of Dubai defeated Dubai’s JSS Private School 3–2 through a tie-breaker while St. Mary’s Catholic School won after a sudden death goal (6–5) against Oxford School.

New Indian Model School of Sharjah beat Sharjah Indian School 8–7 too through another close match. The Delhi Private School also stopped Our Own Indian School of Dubai in a close match. For DPS, Atharva scored the only goal.

Hosts Indian High School, Dubai also overcame Merryland International School, Abu Dhabi 2–1. The boys led 2-0 at half-time when Justin Sunil scored in the first minute and Garry Kurian netted in the 12th minute. For Merryland, Hadi Abdul Rahman scored in the last minute.

The Indian High School Dubai, well known for their dominance in table tennis, emerged as the champions in the boys’ category and finished runners up in the girls’ event.

Delhi Private School, Sharjah emerged as the champions in girls’ event while the Millennium School Dubai finished runners up in the boys category.

In volleyball, The Model School from Abu Dhabi beat Sharjah’s New Indian Model School 25–23 and 25-9 while St. Mary’s Catholic School, Dubai trounced Central School, Dubai 25–06 and 25–13.

In the girls competitions, which commenced with basketball, Delhi Private School, Sharjah whipped Gulf Indian School, Dubai 40–2 and Our Own English High School, Sharjah thrashed Delhi Private School, Dubai 60-10.

Indian High School went down to Emirates National School of Sharjah 2–0 while St. Mary’s Catholic school defeated the Model School 2–0.
