Official seeking to lure the big clubs back
Dherar Belhoul has promised to lure some of the big clubs back into the sport.
Dubai: Dherar Belhoul has promised to lure some of the big clubs back into the sport.
"Over the past few years we have lost some good club sides.
"We need to have them back into the basketball fraternity once again," Dherar Belhoul, the incumbent vice president of the UAEBA told Gulf News.
Belhoul was speaking immediately after being elected as a member of the new board of directors led by Esmail Abdullah Al Gergawi.
The elections to the new board were held at the Leadership Centre in Al Ghusais with Abdul Mohsin Al Dossary as the presiding officer.
Challenges
Belhoul's name as the new vice president has been nominated by Al Gergawi, who was elected unopposed to the post for another four-year period.
However, the formal allocation of posts will take place after the first meeting of the board headed by Al Gergawi at the UAEBA premises later this week.
"We have many challenges before us, but the most interesting one is to get clubs like former champions Al Wahda, Al Jazira, Al Ain and Bani Yas back into basketball," Belhoul stated.
"We have made contact with the clubs already and the signs have been promising," he added.
The official also promised to look into televising basketball matches live on television.
