Dubai:The World Professional Powerboat Association (WPPA), the organizers and promoters of the UIM XCAT World Series are already eyeing a world championship of between four to five races starting in June this year.

Plans are already afoot to host at least a couple of races in Europe followed by a stop in Africa and one in China. The dates and locations for the races will be announced at a later date.

The WPPA and the UIM signed a strategic agreement in December 2012 that would ensure the growth of powerboat racing all around the world through the series. UIM President Dr Raffaele Chiulli represented the world governing body while Saif Al Ketbi, the new WPPA President was present at the signing.

As per the terms of the agreement, the WPPA will continue in its basic role of organizing and promoting the highly-popular UIM XCAT World Series while also paying adequate attention to powerboat safety and development of new drivers in the sport.

“We have been conducting a series of meetings of late to ensure we make a strong presence in some of the best-known powerboat locations in the world through the launch of the UIM XCAT World Series brand,” WPPA Vice President Dr. Khalid Al Zahed noted.

“The international series will run from June to October and we will stick to a maximum of 14 boats who will all be contracted with the WPPA,” he added.
