Dubai: The practice sessions for an array of top international shooters taking part in the Nad Al Sheba Sporting Clays Championship will continue through Saturday at the specially set up facility along the Al Ruwayyah area of Dubai.

Organisers have divided the field into 92 equal squads of six and they have been assigned their timings at the eight layouts on the brand-new shooting range. Joining the international field is a strong squad of 17 shooters representing the host nation.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, the Nad Al Sheba Sporting Clays Championship has attracted a strong field featuring some of the best shooters in the world.

After the two official training sessions over the weekend, the competition will mark its actual start at 8am on March 2.

The Organising Committee of the Nad Al Sheba Sporting Clays Championship led by the UAE’s only Olympic champion Shaikh Ahmad Hasher Al Maktoum has finalised the cash allocations for winners in various categories.

The winners in the men’s competition stand to win $140,000 (Dh514,126) while the runners-up and third-placed shooters will receive $65,000 and $40,000 respectively with the best 50 shooters being rewarded.

In the women’s category, the winners will receive $35,000, while the runners-up will receive $20,000 and the third-place finisher gets $15,000 with the first 20 finishers coming away richer.

Shaikh Hamdan has also instructed a separate allocation of $135,000 as a prize incentive for shooters from the Middle East region. This increase in prize money takes the total cash fund for the championship to $735,000.

In addition to the winners in the various categories, there will be daily raffle draws during the course of the competition offering three cars besides electronic appliances and household items.
