Legendary Omani footballer Gulam to carry Olympic torch
One legend is eager to bask in the glory of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Relay in Muscat while another great Omani Olympian is reclusive.
Muscat: One legend is eager to bask in the glory of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Relay in Muscat while another great Omani Olympian is reclusive.
For legendary Omani footballer Gulam Khamis it is a rare honour that sports authorities have remembered him after so many years and handed him an opportunity to carry the Torch during its relay in Muscat today.
On the other hand Asian Champion and Olympic 400-metre finalist Mohammad Amor Malki has opted out of the honour.
Gulam played four Gulf Cup soccer tournaments for Oman before hanging his boots in 1990.
"I am humbled that old players like me are remembered and given the rare honour of being part of the Olympics," he told Gulf News yesterday.
