Sharjah: The expression ‘the sky is the limit' rang true for South Korea which continued its medal haul at the end of the second day of track events in the 30th Asian Men's and 17th Junior Cycling Championships at the Zayed Velodrome here yesterday.

The Koreans, who have been untouchable at the top of the medals tally in this competition so far, won gold in the men's elite team pursuit, men's elite scratch, women's junior team pursuit, men's junior Keirin and the men's junior team pursuit yesterday despite efforts by Japan and China tried to keep pace with the leaders.

"We don't even want to count the number of medals we are winning here, we are really not interested as we are focused in each and every event that we are participating in," said Hee Tae Yun, manager of international affairs at the Korea Cycling Federation (KCF).

"Even if we win silver or a bronze medal, we are happy with it as we know that our riders have put in their best effort to get it for the country," he added.

The official, also a member of the UCI, the world governing body the sport, could afford a bit of bragging rights as South Korea stamped its class for the second day running at the track events here.

Though the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) does not keep a day-to-day medal table, rough calculations show that the Koreans have easily proved they are worthy of defending the overall crown they won last year in Indonesia.

Besides the four gold medals they clinched in the road races, the Koreans have so far added at least another seven golds to their overall tally after two days at the Zayed Velodrome.

"How can we keep a count of how many medals we are winning?" Yun asked.

"We will have enough time to do the counting once this competition is over on Saturday."

And celebrating his moment in the sun was Jae Ho Han while taking the gold in the men's junior kierin ahead of teammate Jun Min Kim and Malaysian rider Mohammad Amran Arfy Qhairant.

Today is the penultimate day of the competition.
