Dubai: Twenty schools from the UAE will be vying for honours in The Indian High School Sports Festival 2010, which got under way at the main school complex yesterday. The festival was declared open by the school's principal K. P. Joseph.

The football competition started off with the host school going up against the Gulf Indian High School, Dubai to win 3-2 ,while The Millennium School, Dubai and Emirates National School played out a goalless draw.

IHS forged ahead via a Satej Kumar strike in the 10th minute. The Gulf boys equalled the score five minutes later through Abdulla Mohd Ali. After the break, IHS kept the pressure on and struck twice through Sahil Kumar and Nitesh Kumar. Minutes before the final whistle, Emmanuel Joseph of Gulf Indian found a reducer but the hosts managed to hold on.

This year's festival is restricted only for students under-15 years in all disciplines except volleyball. The festival is conducted under the guidance of Ashok kumar, CEO of the school with Dr Tapan Das, Supervisor of the Physical Education Department, looking after the technical aspects of the competitions.
