Doha: It was a golden day for the UAE contingent in the 12th Arab Games as they won three golds — two in golf and one in double-trap shooting yesterday.

There were also rich pickings elsewhere as they won three more bronze medals in shooting, equestrian and snooker, respectively.

Shaikh Juma Bin Dalmuk Al Maktoum led the UAE shooters to win the team event of the Double Trap, before adding a bronze in the individual competition in style.

The UAE team, also featuring Saif Manie Al Shamsi and Mohammad Bin Dahi, scored a total of 426 to win the gold as Shaikh Juma registered 144, Al Shamsi 142 and Dahi 140 leaving the silver medal to Qatar with 421 and the bronze to Kuwait with 418.

In the individual competition, Shaikh Juma won the bronze, Al Shamsi finished fourth and Dahi shared fifth position with their respective best efforts.

Increasing tally

Farah Al Khojai increased the tally with a bronze in equestrian competition while late in the day, Mohammad Al Hashemi won a bronze medal for the UAE in the individual snooker competition by beating Ali Al Obaidly from Qatar 4-3. Fares Al Shamini of Iraq won the gold and Ahmad Saif of Qatar the silver.

Ahmad Al Musharrakh was the two-gold hero for his country when he led the golf team to a gold medal and also earned the individual honours by showing his best form on the final day. He scored four birdies to advance from third place to the top of the standings — also leading the UAE team from fourth place to first with a total of 914 beating Egypt and Bahrain.

The UAE team also featured Khalid Yousuf who scored 77 (+5) yesterday for a total of 302 (+14), Fares Al Mazroue 75 (+3) and 315 (+27) and the fourth player was Abdullah Al Musharrakh 81(+9) 327 (+39). Al Musharrakh finished the day with one under par and joined at the top former leader, Hamad Mubarak of Bahrain on 76(+4) and a total of 298 (+10) to win the silver medal while Qatari Ali Al Bishi won bronze.
