Dubai: Ehab Hassan of Iraq will take on Bashar Hussain on Qatar in the final of the Pro9 Gulf 9-Ball Billiards Tournament scheduled to conclude at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport on Saturday.

In two contrasting semi-finals, Hassan got the better of the UAE’s Salah Reenawi 11-10, while Hussain eased

past countryman Walid Majid 11-5 to book their places in the final.

As many as 128 players from 16 Gulf countries were participating in this annual 9-ball tournament that is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The preliminary rounds of the competition started on July 10 from 10pm onwards under the supervision of the UAE Billiards and Snooker Association.

Saturday’s final will be held at a specially-installed arena near Gate 3 of Terminal 3 at the Dubai International Airport.

“This is the second year that we have organised this tournament at the airport and this move puts the sport in a better position of exposure due to the visitors arriving in Dubai through the airport. We hope to build on the success of this competition and ensure billiards grows in the region,” said Tournament Director Ahmad Al Mazrouei.
