London: Former European light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore is recovering in hospital after being shot twice in the legs in Marbella.

Moore was reportedly attacked over the weekend in the Spanish town, where the English fighter was training compatriot and middleweight Matthew Macklin.

The 35-year-old was unavailable for comment but Macklin confirmed the reports on Twitter: “Just to let everyone know Jamie Moore is still in hospital but he’s OK.

“He was shot in his legs but the doctors have said there shouldn’t be any serious or permanent damage done.”

Moore was reportedly shot at five times and hit twice, in the leg and hip.

Macklin is now based in Marbella, where he has his own gym, and he recently appointed Moore as his trainer.

Moore, a former two-time British light-middleweight champion and Commonwealth champion, was on the verge of a WBC title shot in 2009.

But he decided to quit the sport in 2010 on medical grounds after a career hampered by a niggling shoulder injury.
