Guangzhou: The medal-winning Filipino pool pair of Dennis Orcollo and Warren Kiamko is only too happy to be in a position to snatch a bit of the adulation and attention normally reserved for a sporting icon like boxer Manny Pacquiao.
"Manny is way too famous, but I am sure we will have a great reception for us once we get back home," gold medalist Orcollo told Gulf News after winning the top place in the 9-ball pool singles final at the 16th Asian Games.
On Thursday afternoon, Orcollo won the gold defeating his teammate and friend Warren Kiamko 9-7 in an exciting final at the Asian Games Town Gymnasium here.
"I don't expect life to be the same again for us. We are aware of the greatness of this feat at such an important competition like the Asian Games. This is the first time that two Filipinos are winning two medals in 9-ball pool," Kiamko admitted.
Big dreams
Thrilled at being on the spotlight, Orcollo was dreaming of some real good things in life. "Will you get a real big house in the Philippines now?" someone asked him. To which Orcollo replied: "Maybe the President will come and congratulate us. But for sure there will be a lot of people waiting to receive us at the airport and there will be a lot of functions that we will have to attend. Life is going to be busy once we get back."
Both medalists were thankful to all their countrymen from all over the world for supporting them with their wishes and prayers.
