Dubai: The Fazza Championship for Shooting, Schuetzen rifle category, will start on Tuesday at the Nad Al Sheba shooting grounds between 8.30am and 4pm.

The championship is being organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre and has witnessed 200-plus registrations — the highest since its inception four years ago and up from 120 last year.

Former Olympic shooter Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Hasher Al Maktoum, the head of the organising committee of the Fazza Championship for Shooting, said: “The growth in the championship is thanks to the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre’s rigorous and dedicated efforts to enhance the quality of the competition every successive year.

“The unique feature of the competition is that each participant will be provided with 150 bullets that he can use over the course of three days. It is the largest number of bullets used in the history of the championship.

“We thank His Highness Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, for supporting and encouraging the sport practiced by our forefathers.”

Souad Darwish, Director of the Fazza Championships, said: “The shooting championships have witnessed a fantastic response and are attracting shooters from across the GCC. We realise the importance of reviving traditional Arabian sports and strive to enhance our national identity.”

The championships will see 92 shooters from Kuwait compete alongside other participants from the UAE and the rest of the GCC, as well as 15 women shooters.
