Ryley Heffernan has his hands full despite hardly any outdoor sporting activity at this time of the year. The 35-year-old is the marketing manager of Rage, hosts of the hugely popular Dubai Desert Extreme Championships and while the annual event will only be held at the end of the year, it’s the extreme sports activities at Dubai Sports World that is currently keeping him busy.

For over a decade, Rage has been pushing the culture of skateboarding and action sports in the region by hosting annual Skate, Snow and BMX events such as the Dubai Desert Extreme Championships, being part of the Dubai X Games and various Red Bull events, as well as sponsoring the most talented skaters in the region.

This year, Skaters, BMX riders and action sport enthusiasts have the chance to escape the heat and keep on shredding at Dubai Sports World. Rails, Grind Boxes, Fun Boxes and a Mini Ramp are just a few obstacles at the Rage Skatepark. Rage will be showcasing the Middle East’s most talented Skateboarders and BMX riders, offering Skate lessons for beginners and advanced lessons for those who want to improve.

“While it’s meant to be all fun and play, we do have three competitions during this period,” Ryley told XPRESS.

“We have already had Wild in the Parks, a skate specific event on Go Skaters Day on June 21 and coming up is the Ramadan Jam on July 17 which will have skateboarding and BMX.”

With interest in extreme sports pretty high in this part of the world, Rage also strives to give back to the community by providing quality products, amazing events and most importantly, quality training.

“We have the camp rage, which is a summer programme of three weeks of five days each week. We have two professional trainers, a skateboarding pro from Germany who is already coaching and BMX Pro from the UK who is scheduled to arrive on July 18,” he said. The price for a week’s training is Dh750 including all equipment and safety gears.

Ryley is also pleased at the response and the high standards. “There is a lot of talent in skateboarding and the local BMX riders are quite good. We have our own Rage team who have been to competitions in Asia and Europe, so I think there’s a lot of possibility here,” he added.
