Emirates Pakistan team win hockey tournament
The Emirates Pakistan team clinched top honours at the annual Independence Day hockey tournament last week.
Dubai: The Emirates Pakistan team clinched top honours at the annual Independence Day hockey tournament last week.
The tournament, played on a league basis, saw four teams in the race for the title.
The Emirates Pakistan team won all three of their matches. They beat Emirates UAE 1-0, before securing a hard-fought 2-1 win against Emirates India and a similar 2-1 victory over Emirates Rest of the World.
Jameel Asif, Mohammad Naeem, Javed Iqbal and Nadeem Bhatti Nadeem Ahmad were among the prominent performers for the winning side.
Emirates India had to settle for the runner-up spot with player of the tournament Jayesh in excellent form as he scored a brace in their match against Emirates Rest of the World.
Jayesh was again on the scoreboard with a goal against Emirates UAE while he also scored a fourth against Emirates Pakistan.
For the Emirates UAE side, organiser Qadeer Hussain struck the only hat-trick of the tournament, while Arshad Nazir scored a bullet hit on a penalty corner against Emirates India.
