Dubai: Emirates airline successfully defended their title at the end of the third and final day of the fifth World Airlines Bowling Championships (WABC) the Dubai Bowling Centre.

Emirates finished at the top of the table in the 13-team competition late on Saturday leaving Aer Lingus in second place while Etihad Airways did well to finish in third place.

However, dominating the Masters in the singles competition at the end of the tournament was Stephen Joyce from Aer Lingus. Joyce had a total pin-fall of 2,694 and an average of 224.5 to pick up the top individual prize, and was matched by Sharon Ryan from American Airlines in the women's category.

Emirates' skipper Mohammad Alam came up with a consistent performance for a pin-fall of 2,614 and an average of 217.83 to take the second spot in the Masters singles, while Dilan Selvadurai of Etihad was placed third.

The hosts had a creditable fourth place when Tarek bowled a total pin-fall of 2,440 while British Airways' David Barnes came in fifth.

In the women's Masters singles, Sharon Ryan dominated to win the crown, while Helma Gruijthuijsen of KLM came in second and Karen Araza of Etihad Airways was placed third.

More than 100 bowlers from 13 airlines competed for trophies in the Singles, Doubles, Masters and Team events, and the coveted World Airline Bowling Cup Champion Team section that eventually went to defending champions Emirates.
