Dubai: Organisers of the Emirates Body Building Championship say they have received a huge response with athletes from most Arab countries interested in taking part.

Competitors from Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Iran and Jordan have already confirmed they would be participating in the event in Ajman on December 5 and 6.

Osama Al Shafar, President of the Asian Body Building Federation and President of the Emirates Body Building Association, said: "And we are yet to send out official invitations to the associations of the Gulf countries."

The Emirates Body Building Championship is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman Executive Council.

Much interest

"We had expected such a response to this competition as it is so close to the World Body Building Championships being held in Bahrain in November.

"Such a response can only be good for the growth of the sport in the UAE," said Al Shafar.

The Asian Body Building chief called on Shaikh Ammar earlier this week and discussed the various aspects of holding such a competition.

"He has told us to go ahead with the organisation of the event as it is meant to coincide with the UAE National Day celebrations," Al Shafar said.

The event will have separate competitions for juniors and seniors while the adults will be divided into eight weight divisions.

Also two female body builders from Kazakhstan will perform a special body fitness show.

Prize money

The winner in each category will walk away with Dh10,000 and the runner-up will get Dh7,000 each.

Organisers are expecting more than 100 body builders to participate in the high-profile event.
