Dubai: The third edition of the MKFA Epee Cup will be held at the Dubai International Academy in Emirates Hills on December 19 and 20.

Sponsored by Gargash Enterprises Mercedes-Benz and the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), the annual tournament will feature more than 100 fencers from all over the world competing in four different categories.

Participants will be drawn into the men’s open, women’s open or boys and girls under-15 years segments. There will be prize money for the men’s and women’s categories along with gift vouchers worth Dh15,000 for all winners.

“Fencing is an Olympic sport with so much scope for growth in the region and I seriously believe we can have some good fencers here in the near future,” said Mihail Kouzev, Competition Director.

“I strongly believe that, with the support of the UAE government and other locally based companies, we can grow the event to staging a Grand Prix Cup because the UAE deserves to have such high-profile events.”

The annual event is not accepting individual entries and only fencers registered with their country’s federation can sign up for the competition. An entry fee of Dh80 per head is applicable for the men’s and women’s categories.
