Dubai: Dubai will host the sixth Fazza International Wheelchair Basketball Championships — IWBF West Asian Championship 2014 from May 10 to 15 at the Al Ahli Club.
Organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre and the Dubai Club for the Disabled under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the event has drawn teams from eight countries — Oman, Kuwait, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia besides hosts UAE.
Thani Juma Berregad, Chairman of the Dubai Club for the Disabled and head of the organising committee for the Fazza Championships for the Disabled, said: “We are thrilled to host what will be another exciting edition of the Fazza Championship for Wheelchair Basketball. Dubai is building its reputation as a sporting destination of choice and we are extremely grateful to Shaikh Hamdan for his continued support of this event.”
Souad Darwish, director of the championships, said: “The Fazza Championship for Wheelchair Basketball has grown in stature and has achieved a more international flavour. Dubai is playing a key role in encouraging sports in the UAE and a sporting event for people with disabilities remains a priority for the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Heritage Centre.”
