Dubai: The team representing Dubai Police topped the annual Fourth Dubai Government Entities Bowling Championships that concluded at the Dubai Bowling Centre earlier this week.

The team from Dubai Police finished at the top with a total of 2,639 pin falls, followed by Dubai Municipality with 2,470 and the team from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in third with 2,304. Defending champions Dubai Customs finished fourth.

The individual honours though were reserved for RTA’s Mahmoud Ahmad Al Attar as he made a successful defence of the title he won last year.

Al Attar, a member of the UAE team at the Incheon Asian Games earlier this year, had a score of 630 points, followed by Khalid Mohammad Al Hammadi of Dubai Customs in second with 622 points, and Dela Cruz of Dewa with 600 points.

The annual Dubai Government Entities Sports Championships are organised each year by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, DSC.

Ali Omar, Director, Sports Development Deparment, DSC, was the chief guest and presented the tournament’s winners with trophies.

This year the bowling competition attracted a total of 51 players from 11 different Dubai government departments.

Meanwhile, the DSC announced that table tennis and billiards tournaments will be held in the first half of January, while the football and tug-of-war competitions will be held in early February.

Last year’s edition of the tournament attracted participation from 30 government and semi-government bodies and the biggest response was for the football tournament that attracted 28 teams including Argentine legend Diego Maradona who turned out for hosts DSC.
