Dubai: The US team has had its new world record ratified by world governing body FAI in the two-way Canopy Formation even as the hosts continued dominating in at least two categories after six days of competition at the 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championship (DIPC) being held at the Skydive Dubai site.

The three-member team of Chris Gay, Brian Pangburn and Yiliya Pangburn set a new record of 45 points in time in the Canopy Formation (CF). In the process, the American trio re-wrote the old record of 36 points that was held by France on August 8 last year.

In this competition category, teams of three – of which two jumpers perform various mid-air formations while the third one, who is a videographer, has the task of recording the moves, touches and formations completed in a working time of one minute and these are viewed by the jury later.

Meanwhile, the UAE continued its ranking at the top of the standings in the 8-way Formation Skydiving (FS) and the 4-way Vertical Formation Skydiving (VFS) after six days of the competition.

After five rounds of jumping, the UAE is at the top in the 8-way competition with a cumulative total of 79 points while Monaco and Russia are in second and third respectively with 74 and 73 points.

In the 4-way competition, the hosts are breakaway leaders with 129 points after five rounds. France is in second with 114 points and Poland is in third with 38 points.

The 4th DIPC will continue every day until December 9. This annual event is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, and is being organised by the Emirates Aero Sport Federation in coordination with Skydive Dubai.
