Dubai:

The team from Dubai Civil Aviation (DCA) totalled 1,343 points to walk away with the top honours at the Second Dubai Women’s Bowling Championship that concluded at the Dubai Bowling Centre, Al Mamzar on Sunday.

The DCA team finished ahead of the team representing Dubai Police (1,130 points), while the Public Prosecution team finished third with a tally of 1,118 points.

However, in the individual competition, Fatima Shamsan of Dubai Police took the top spot with 358 points, followed by Ghariba Salim of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority with 345 points and Bumika Bhatia of Knowledge and Human Development Authority in third place with 328 points. Shamsan also walked away with the ‘Best player of the tournament’ award, while Sarah Ali of DCA got the prize for top score.

On the sidelines of the competition, a women’s team from Dubai Disabled Club participated in a separate competition with UAE national team bowler Hind Al Hammadi on hand to give the bowlers tips and advice.

Dr Aisha Bu Sumait, Director, Communication and Marketing Department, Dubai Sports Council (DSC) awarded the winners in the presence of Fawziya Fraidoon, Manager, Sports Activities, Women Sports Department and Head of the Organising Committee, DSC, and Amna Al Khaldi, Head, Technical Committee.

“The DSC endeavours to provide a competitive atmosphere in new sports games for women and in the past we have had separate competitions in badminton, volleyball, basketball, handball, chess, table tennis and golf to encourage women to a daily sports routine so that our women can excel in all fields,” noted Dr Aisha Bu Sumait.

Organised by the DSC with support from Damac Maison Hotels and Resorts, Paris Gallery, B360 Watches, Dubai Refreshments Co. and Romario Sports, the bowling tournament was organised as part of DSC’s strategic plan 2015 that enables participation of women in all fields while giving them an opportunity to excel in sports.
