Abu Dhabi: The reputation of Abu Dhabi as a sporting capital of the region will be further enhanced when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) — the highest body that settles disputes in sport — opens an office here tomorrow.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) and the International Council for Arbitration for Sport of the International Olympic Committee have agreed to set up the new centre of CAS, which will be the first outside its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Matthieu Reeb, CAS Secretary General, and John D. Coates, Board President of CAS, along with Allal Al Aboudi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Council (ADJC), Sultan Saeed Al Badi, Under Secretary of ADJD, Yousuf Saeed Al Ibri, Attorney General of Abu Dhabi, and Abdul Aziz Al Yakoubi, General Secretary of ADJC, will be present at the opening, which will be held at the Al Jazira Towers of Al Jazira Sports Club tomorrow.

The CAS Abu Dhabi Centre will hold arbitration hearings and will organise meetings, seminars and other activities related to the development and promotion of sports law in the region.

The Abu Dhabi office of sport's highest court will also handle all local, regional and international sports-related disputes and provide the required facilities to conduct video calls with experts and witnesses from around the world.
