Foundation announces launch of Fatima Bint Mubarak awards
Abu Dhabi: Distinguished women sports personalities will be part of the two-day Abu Dhabi International Conference for Women's Sports that begins at the Emirates Palace Hotel here today.
There will be two sessions held today dealing with various aspects of women and sport.
In the morning session, Shaikha Naeema Al Ahmad Al Sabah, chairwoman of the Organising Committee of GCC Women's Sports; Raja Mattila of the International Working Group on Women & Sports; Kari Fasting from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences; Melanie Longdill from Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence; and Elizabeth Pike from the International Sociology of Sport Association, will be part of the panel that will discuss ‘Women's sports: Individual will and collective encouragement'.
The topic for the afternoon panel is ‘Women's football — international experience and role of the associations to encourage participation'. The panelists include Rosella Sensi, an Italian entrepreneur, former president of AS Roma and former vice-president of Lega Calcio; Stefanie Schulte from the German Football Association; Hafsa Al Ulama, head of the UAE Women's Football Committee; and Efthalia Mitsi, Fifa football referee.
The Family Development Foundation (FDF), organisers of the two-day event, also announced the launch of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women's Sports Awards.
Humanitarian personality
Shaikha Al Jabri, representative of the FDF, told a press conference that the awards reflect the great, humanitarian personality of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation, President of the General Women's Union, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood & Childhood.
"Shaikha Fatima is always very keen to support women sectors in our country and in the Arab world. These awards will motivate women in our country and the Arab world to do their utmost, push them to play their role in their societies, and be keen to contribute very positively to the processes of development in their respective countries," Al Jabri said.
