British boxer doesn't like to see women getting hurt in the ring

Dubai: Despite living his entire life for boxing, British heavyweight Danny Williams is not particularly impressed with women taking up the sport.

"I have enjoyed my stay in the UAE, but I am far from pleased or happy about the way these women have boxed. This is not a sport for women. It is okay for men to box, but not women. It's way too bloody for them," Williams said as he watched the professional women's card at the World Arab Boxing Championships, held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.

"I don't like seeing women getting hurt while practising this sport. Basically their body is built different, it is not a body that is made to fight. A woman has much more beautiful to offer and boxing is not one of these. Their body can't take it. No woman should take up boxing as a sport."

Williams was guest of honour at last week's World Arab Boxing Championships which was organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in coordination with international boxing body Fiba and Golden Star Media under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The British boxer, popularly known as the ‘Brixton Bomber' confirmed that he is scheduled to make a comeback to boxing in a bout in Abu Dhabi a little more than a month before his 40th birthday.

"I am motivated to make this move in my career. All my life I have pursued this sport like no one, and now I feel I have spent enough time outside of boxing doing other things that I love. However, it has been a long time and it would be appropriate to come back to a sport that has given me so much," Williams said while disclosing details of the June 19 fight.
