Arushee creates waves in India

Arushee Wahi, a Grade six student of the Delhi Private School, Sharjah, has created waves in the CBSE National Swimming Championship held in Vadodara, India. She bagged three gold medals, one silver and set new national record.

Sharjah: Arushee Wahi, a Grade six student of the Delhi Private School, Sharjah, has created waves in the CBSE National Swimming Championship held in Vadodara, India. She bagged three gold medals, one silver and set new national record.

She also steered her school team to gold medal win and a national record in 4x50m individual medley relay and a silver medal win in 4x50m free relay. Her relay team comprised Eehita Chabbra, Sharda Kedar and Anushka Palliwal.

Eehita won the silver medal in 200m individual medley and a bronze in 50m breaststroke.

Early bird

"I began swimming from the age of three. My parents used to take me to the Ajman Marine Club but I started participating in competitions from the age of six," remarked Arushee, who took part for the first time in the national meet in India when she was only eight years old.

"I finished in the fifth position and I was determined to win the gold. I worked hard in the school swimming pool regularly," she said.

From 2006 to 2008 she has bagged 15 gold medals, five each every year, in the Gulf Zonal meet.

In November 2007, CBSE Swimming meet in Chennai, India, Arushee bagged two silver and two bronzes.

For Arushee, this year has been an eventful one. She even won the prestigious Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum award for the distinguished student. She also went on to win the Speedo Dubai Individual Championship Trophy for the best Under-12 swimmer.

"For two consecutive years I have won the Individual trophy in Under-10 and Under-12 category in the Millennium Swimming Gala organised by Millennium School, Dubai.

"I will aim is to represent India in an international competition," she remarked confidently.
