Sharjah: Qatar Ladies Club dominated the 25-metre pistol shooting competitions in the second Arab Women Sports Tournament 2014 organised by Sharjah Ladies Club from February 2 to 12.

The event is being held under the patronage of the wife of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club.

Qatar athletes occupied the first three positions in individual competitions, as well as winning the gold in teams’ competition, ahead of the Bahraini team and Al Fatat Club of Kuwait.

The Qatari athletes gained 1,673 points, with Dana Saad Al Mubarak scoring 572, Nasra Mohammad Mahmoud 565 and Souad Waleed Al Khatir 563.

At the end of the competitions, medals were presented to winners by Salim Naser Al Dahhash, Member of the Arab Federation and Head of AWST’s Technical Committee, Mohammad Bin Sultan Bin Howaiden Al Kitbi, President of Al Dhaid’s Municipal Council, Khalifa Bin Howaiden, President of Al Dhaid Club, and Saad Al Sufiani, Secretary General of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees.

Nawal Al Saliti, spokeswoman for Qatar Ladies Club, praised her team’s performance, stressing that good preparation is what led them to this impressive achievement.

Al Saliti said: “These great results did not come by chance. It was the good preparation for AWST that made this possible, especially with the great support our athletes enjoyed by Qatar’s Shooting Association. All these factors, in addition to great performance by our players, lead us to this impressive achievement”.

Al Saliti dedicated the win to the Qatar Shooting Association, highlighting the high-grade competition AWST witnessed in shooting tournaments.
