Abu Dhabi: It will be an all-Thai final in the Dh160,000 snooker event of the Armed Forces Officers Club's 12th Ramadan Open Sports Festival.

In yesterday's semifinals played at the AFOC indoor snooker hall, Thepchaiya Un-noo of Thailand scored a 4-0 win over Pakistan's Mohammad Shafiq while Issara Kachaiwang got the better of another Pakistani opponent, Khurram Agha 4-1.

Un-noo won the first frame 72-22 against Shafiq and then took the second also at 68-25. In the third frame the Thai registered a break of 56 which saw him win 63-18 and after that though Shafiq tried to fight back, Un-noo won the fourth frame 67-42.

Kachaiwang, whose best break of 58 came in the second frame, won his best-of-seven semifinal against Agha 58-21, 79-2, 61-48, 51-73 and 71-12.

The two Thais will play a best-of-nine frames final for the trophy, gold medal and a slice of Dh160,000 on offer in the Dh14 million sports festival being held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs.

In football action, defending champions the National Drilling Company (NDC) eked out a 1-0 win over the Capital Police to reach the final.

However last year's runners-up Al Rabea of Algeria were unlucky as they made an exit losing a tie-breaker to the Al Nuaimi Group 4-6 after the two teams shared four goals during regular time.

The final will be played tomorrow with the winner taking home Dh350,000 while the runners-up will gain Dh250,000. Third place winners will get Dh150,000 while the fourth placed team will get Dh100,000. All quarterfinalists will also receive Dh16,000 each.

Ali Ebrahim Ali of the Al Nuaimi Group is the current leading scorer with 31 goals and at stake is a cash prize of Dh6,000.

In bowling, Nayef Eqab of Abu Dhabi Police, with 235 points, leads the final eight bowlers. The others are Saeed Obaid Balkiddeeda, Mahmoud Al Attar, former world champion, Mohammad Khalifa Al Qubaisi, Fahad Falah, Kuwait's Rakan Al Omairi, Shakir Ali and Hareb Al Mansouri in that order.

Lieutenant General Mohammad Hilal Surour Al Ka'abi, AFOC Board Chairman and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the AFOC'S 12th Open Sports Festival said preparations for tomorrow night's closing ceremony were over.
