Al Wasl and Al Ain dominate long distance swimming

Al Wahda bag top honours in the men's division on the second day of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Festival.

Abu Dhabi: Al Wasl and Al Ain dominated the UAE long distance Swimming Championship for juniors and youth leaving Al Wahda to win the men's category in the second day of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Festival on Tuesday.

Abdullah Yousuf of Al Wasl won under 13 title (2 km) followed by Adul Azia Mazhood from Al Ain in second place and his team mate Mohammad Khamis third.

Ali Naseeb, from Al Ain, won the under 15 (4km) followed by Omar Mohammad Ahmad and Hussain Mohammad, both from Al Wasl.

Al Ain's dominance continued in under 17 (6 km) with Abdullah Sulaiman and his colleague Qa'eet Al Minhali winning first and second place respectively while Mehdi Ali from Al Wahda came third.

In the men's category (8 km) Obaid Ahmad Obaid and Majid Mohammad Abdullah, both from Al Wahda took the first two places respectively while Waleed Nasib from Al Ain came third.

Sir Bani Yas School dominated the Iron Student competition having won both the two leading places as their team consisting of Gasim Saleh, Ali Sa'ad and Abdul Aziz Abdi came first in the 12km competition that included swimming, running and cycling.

Theire school mates Hussain Saleh, Ebrahim Ahmad and Abdullah Al Gailani finished second. Mohammad Bin Khalid School came third with their team featuring: Ahmad Moussa, Madeeh Ali and Raeid Khalid.

The second round of the UAE Jet Ski Championship will be the main event of the third day of the Marine Festival today with top local drivers led by Nadir Bin Hindi, Saif Bin Futtais, Hosham Ali Bin Hindi and Mohammad Al Murr Bin Huraiz facing tough competition to defend their results of the first round.

Nadir leads the Pro Runabout up to 1600 cc, Hosham, the son of Nadir's brother, leads the Junior Ski up to 800 cc and Bin Huraiz leads the Ski Limited up to 800 cc .

Bin Futtais came runner up to Kuwaiti Mohammad Bu Rabie who leads the Runabout Stock up to 1600 cc as Frenchman Caumont Ludvic leads the Pro Ski up to 900 cc.

The race will be held in two heats, the first will be contested in the morning while the second and most decisive event will be held from 3pm.

After the UIM decision to cancel the Pole run, the places on the pit stop will be decided by the results of the first heat.
