Abu Dhabi: Mohammad Al Mazrooei and Shathra Ahmad Al Haijaji won respective men’s and women’s categories of the inaugural Emirati Cycle Challenge at Al Wathba Cycle Track in Abu Dhabi last Saturday.

The ride was organised by the Sultan Hazza Al Darmaki Stables and was open to Emirati social riders and featured challenges for male and female riders.

Almost 100 cyclists took part with 23 female and 73 male competitors. Female riders rode over 16km and male competitors rode over 48km.

Al Mazrooei finished ahead of Khaled Al Muhairi and Bader Thani, while Al Haijaji beat Hanadi Al Kabouri and Noor Walker.

Challenge organiser Sultan Hazza Al Darmaki said the event was organised to encourage local riders to make use of the new 16km Al Wathba Cycle Track, while getting fit. He thanked Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, for the facility and revealed that an extra 100km would be added soon.
