Ahmad to attend opening ceremony of Beijing Games

Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Group and President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, will attend the Opening Ceremony in Beijing tomorrow.

Dubai: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Group and President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, will attend the Opening Ceremony in Beijing tomorrow.

Shaikh Ahmad, who will leave today, will be accompanied by Abdul Rahman Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Chairman of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare.

Ali Al Soury, manager of Shaikh Ahmad's office, and Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, the UAE Chess Association Chairman and President of Hydra Properties the main sponsors of the UAE in the Olympic Games, will also be part of the delegation to Beijing.

Warm welcome

Ebrahim Abdul Malek, the NOC secretary general who left to Beijing on Tuesday, and the UAE ambassador to China will be receiving Shaikh Ahmad when arriving to Beijing Airport.

Meanwhile, the UAE athletes, sprinter Omar Juma Bilal Al Salfa, swimmer Obaid Al Jasmi and judo player Saeed Rashid Al Qubaisi, embarked on their golden quest yesterday.

Mohammad Abdul Wahab Al Bustani and Talal Al Hammadi, who will take part in the youth camp held during the Olympic Games, also accompanied them to Beijing.
