Dubai: Television viewers can tune into beIN and Abu Dhabi Sports channels to watch the Rio 2016 Olympics coverage from August 4 to 22.

Etisalat said that both beIN and Abu Dhabi Sports will be showing Olympics on eLife TV but there will also be other channels carrying it from other regional Free-To-Air (FTA) feeds. “beIN will have dedicated channels in Arabic (HD 1 and HD9). Their Free to air channel will show results and some highlights as well,” an etisalat spokesperson said.

Abu Dhabi Sports will have Olympics coverage free on AD Sports 1 in Arabic and also on AD Sports 2 in English. AD Sports channels (3 to 6) will show live coverage without studio coverage in both Arabic and English.

Du said that beIN and Abu Dhabi Sports channels will be showing Olympics coverage in High Definition (HD) with English and Arabic commentary. There will be no extra cost for watching the Games. beIN sports channels (1 to 10) will show select events while channels 11 and 12 will offer HD coverage of the Games.

Social media platform Twitter also unveiled its plans for the Games, highlighted by a dedicated section that will feature content and stories unfolding during the Games. Twitter also announced the launch of more than 200 hashtag-triggered Twitter emojis.

“Twitter’s activation of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will bring fans around the world together to see what’s happening with the teams before, during and after the top athletes compete for glory,” said Leslie Berland, CMO of Twitter. “Twitter, Vine and Periscope will offer fans inside access, commentary, highlights and conversation throughout the Games and as the action unfolds.”

In addition to that, Twitter will feature live Olympic Moments to follow for key sports and events throughout the Games in the following markets: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Japan, the UK and the US.

Fans across the globe can share their passion for their favourite teams on Twitter with 207 team emojis. Tweeting with the three-letter country code hashtag will trigger flag emojis for every team, including the Refugee Olympic Team (#ROT).

Fans can also trigger over 50 Olympics and sports emojis on Twitter. The hashtags that trigger the emojis will be available in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. The hashtags that trigger sports emojis, as well as #Rio2016 and #Olympics, are also available in Japanese, Korean and Arabic. All emojis will be available in the coming days.

Fans in Rio will also feel the Olympic spirit through Twitter. Tweets from all over the world will be projected live on Rio’s aqueduct Arcos da Lapa.
