Dubai: The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has called for participation from all communities and people of the emirate to make the UAE National Sports Day celebrations on November 25 a success.

“This day is for the entire UAE. This is a special day and it is the moral responsibility of each and every citizen to participate and make this day very special for the UAE. We are celebrating this day on the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and we need to do everything to make this day an integral part of our identity as a nation, thus showing unity in diversity. The activities have been planned on land, air and sea,” Saeed Hareb, General Secretary, DSC, told media yesterday.

Eisa Harbash, Board Member, DIMC and Rashid Al Amiri, Director, Dubai Sports Channel accompanied Hareb at the head table.

Earlier this year, Shaikh Mohammad announced November 25 as UAE National Sports Day in an attempt to bring together the entire nation. Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President, UAE National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC) was appointed as Chairman of Higher Organising Committee.

All seven emirates have planned various sports and allied activities over a 24-hour duration that will commence at midnight on November 24 and go on till the next day.

The DIMC will act as headquarters for the Dubai events with Dubai Sports Centre setting up their studio on site to cover as many events as possible. “We had a presentation of more than 55 events for this special day, but we chose only 44 in keeping with the 44th anniversary of the UAE National Day,” Hareb said.

Among the highlights in Dubai will be Italian multiple Guinness World Record holder Vittorio Brumotti, who is scheduled to climb the stairs of the iconic Burj Al Arab on his bicycle, while Mohammad Bilal and Osman Safi - both participants in countless Ironman challenges all over the world - will be running on the treadmill non-stop for 24 hours in an attempt to enter the Guinness World Records. During the course of the day, the first UAE national football team will be felicitated.

“These are among the events we have planned but others too have been getting their events in place. The various clubs and associations are involved, so also banks and social clubs and associations. Even the Crown Prince’s office has a series of activities lined up,” Hareb said.

“The UAE National Sports Day is not about competition. It is about being physically active. This day is about being united as a nation. November 25 is just the start for the remaining 365 days of the year,” he said.
