Rio de Janeiro: Britain beat New Zealand to win the men’s team sprint gold medal on the opening day of the track cycling at the Rio Olympics on Thursday.
Britain’s Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner set a new Olympic record with their time of 42.440 seconds.
Britain recorded an average speed of 63.619 km/h to win, sending a large British contingent of supporters into raptures.
It was Kenny’s fourth Olympic gold medal.
New Zealand came home in 42.542 seconds at the Rio Olympic Velodrome.
France beat Australia in the bronze-medal match.
