Dubai: Some of the world’s best chess players have arrived to take part in the Riyadh Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship that commenced on Friday. The five-day event will conclude on November 30. The UAE’s top players are taking part in the event.

The Saudi Arabian Chess president and chairman of the chess event organisation committee Mottaz Al Sulaiman, has announced that the 2017 Rapid and Blitz chess championship will be hosted by Saudi Arabia and will carry the name: King Salman World Chess Championship

Al Sulaiman revealed that the event hosting agreement signed in London and the event was made possible by the efforts of the Saudi Arabian Sport Authority and its president Turki Alalshikh.

Al Sulaiman said: “The preparation for the event for Saudi’s first chess tournament was full proof as it will last for five days and award winners will get the highest prizes in the event’s history. Saudi Arabia welcomes all participants, media crews and event’s guests. We are thankful to the Government of Saudi Arabia for its unlimited support for youth and sports organisations in the country.”

The Saudi Chess president is also hopeful that this event will give Saudi chess players anl opportunity to experience high level chess and gain valuable knowledge by playing in this tournament. Among the Saudi nationals participating in the event is the country current champion Abdulrahman Masrahi and the country’s highest rated players Ahmad Al Ghamdi and Emad Al Habeeb.
