Dubai: Shaun Dasani , Sudarshan Surya , Rajesh Vasantha Kumar and Vinayak Ganesh were impressive on the opening day of the Nissan children's chess tournament at the Reef Mall.

Nearly 40 children are competing in age groups of under-8, 10 and 14 . The tournament is being held in keeping with the Swiss system of seven rounds.

FIDE Master Hassan Abbasifar of Iran will be providing instructions for all the children and teach them on how to analyse their games.

Dasani, Surya and Vishnu Vijay are the top seeds in the under-10 and 14 categories.

Dasani got off to a flying start, defeating Shreyas Agarwal, showing better skills in the middlegame.

In the inaugural round, Rajesh Vasantha Kumar and Vinayak Ganesh were impressive in the under-8 category. Both won their games against Vedang Rajesh and Aditya Mohan.

The tournament, being held only on weekends, concludes on March 17. The children's event has attracted several young talents who have an opportunity to showcase their talent and hone their skills.

The matches will commence from 2pm at the Reef Mall. The master challenge is open to all and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
